What to Buy

I am online shopping for my niece's birthday. It was much easier when she was little and loved any doll that I bought her. Her current obsession is jewelry and her mom says she wants more necklaces. I have it narrowed down to heart pendant jewelry. She is very sentimental so I think she will like the idea of being able to carry a picture of her current crush or her little dog with her where ever she goes.

The Party's Over

The weekend was a total blast. We had great friends over and we ate and drank and ate some more and watched fireworks in between. The eating even continued the next day with yummy left over ribs. It was hard getting back to reality yesterday and settling down to work. I even looked up my research on the best diet pills because the reality of the extra 10 pounds I have packed on hit me. I need to get serious and lose some weight. No more ribs for me.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July to everyone! I hope you have a fabulous holiday. We have guests coming over for a cookout and then plan to go to the beach to watch fireworks. I will be firing up the smoker soon. There are baby back ribs and chicken waiting in the refrigerator to be turned into smoky delights. A watermelon is cooling in the second fridge. We are going all the way with the traditional route today. Have fun ya'll.

Finally Joining the New Century

My husband and I are behind the times. We don't tend to get caught up in gadgets, we are always the last of our friends to get anything. I resisted a cell phone until about 4 years ago. Now it looks like we are giving in to the world of satellite radios. Maybe I should say my husband is. He loves radio, particularly talk radio. The options for that in our area are limited so he has decided to take the plunge. What's next, a blackberry?

Visitors

We had visitors from Texas last week. My brother and his family live there and they stayed for a few days on their way to Disney. It has been an eventful trip so far. They were a few hours away from home when their daughter broke her tooth. They had to stop and find a Plano Dentist to relieve her pain. She seemed to be doing fine while they were here so everything should be good. Let's hope their stay in Orlando is less eventful.

Hurricane Season Begins

Hurricane season officially began June 1st. It runs through the end of November. However, the most active part is usually late August through October. There is already one brewing in the Pacific just off the coast of Mexico. It is a tropical storm and they thing it will strengthen into a hurricane. I hope it's early arrival doesn't mean this is going to be a bad season. Hurricanes go away!

Big Business

I just realized how many skin care commercials are on televisions now. I think it would be interesting to find out what percentage of advertising is done by skin care companies. It seems that every program includes one for an acne treatment, an aging skin cream, or one to treat dark circles. There must be a lot of money to be made in the beauty and skin care industry.

The Tourists Have Arrived

I don't have to look at the calendar to know what time of year it is. Around here, you can judge things by the number of tourists and who they are. As of last week, I know it is summer. All of the families with children have started showing up in droves. I'm not complaining. The local economy is based on tourist. Many were scared that there wouldn't be any this year and the locals would suffer. It looks like they were wrong. All of the makers of diet pills and swim suits should be happy as well. A trip to the beach usually involved those two things.

Throw It Back

We live on the gulf coast of Florida. My husband loves to fish and goes out quite frequently. We are surrounded by military bases and they do bombing runs in the gulf. Areas of it are off limits because of that, but everyone knows that things sometimes go astray. I am always kidding him and telling him to be careful what he catches and not to get blown up.

I just read when a fisherman here caught a live air to air missile. He not only caught it, he kept it on his boat for 10 days. When he finally reported it, the military blew it up because it was too unstable to transport. WTH was he thinking???

Good News

I was talking to my neighbor and she finally received some good news. She has cancer and applied for disability insurance. She was turned down the first time so she hired an attorney to help her. I am so glad for her. She has enough to deal with without worrying about having enough money to buy her medications. Her husband works but he isn't making enough to pay for everything without her salary. Now she can concentrate on healing.

Working From Home

I have been working from home for over a year now and I love it. I make my living by writing and by working a customer service job. Even though the economy is tough you can still find a home based business opportunity if you want one. Most of the jobs are phone based and many are customer service type jobs. There are also jobs as virtual assistants. If you do not want a job with a schedule, you can do freelance work writing or programming.

What's Up With Teachers?

There has been another female teacher arrested for having sex with her student. The student is a fourteen year old boy. They are accused of having sex seven times, some of them in the classroom. The teacher is twenty seven years old. What is up with female teachers? Or has this always happened and it was never talked about? I can't wrap my mind around someone thinking it is OK to have sex with a 14 year old child.
